Review article from the Sandvig group: Targeted cancer therapy and imaging using Shiga toxin
Shiga toxin binds to the glycosphingolipid Gb3, which has been reported to be highly expressed in many types of cancer.
An updated overview of the published reports on overexpression in human cancers is provided, and the possibility of utilizing Shiga toxin or its binding unit coupled to therapeutic compounds or contrast agents in targeted cancer therapy and imaging is discussed.
