Interpath Interpath

Virtual Microscope (VM) is based on digitalized pathology specimens (slides and tissue sections). VM allows for possibilities to view, navigate, distribute, and assess over LAN and the internet. Digitalizing of tissue together with using other digital techniques opens for new methods within diagnosis research.

Overview

VM will be able to reveal new diagnostic parameters. Quantitative histology is based on VM and image segmenting can be an important supplement to traditional methods. We have in cooperation with Hamamatsu developed NanoZoomer which is the hardware platform for VM. NanoZoomer provides the most effective production of digitalized tissue sections.

Interpath will be a web portal to visualize the Departmentís activity within research and development of digital image handling tools. A goal is to develop interpath to be a national reference site for Virtual Microscopy and TMA. The diagnostic archive is based on PatPict and slide seminars will contribute to instruction and diagnoses within department pathology.

A main milestone in the project is to develop interpath Image Viewer in collaboration with Room4. Interpath Image Viewer is central in this functionality, response time, and the services to be established in the portal. In the short run, TMA WEB, PatPict and a general interface toward VM will be established in Interpath. In the next phase, the project will be developed as a complete telepathology system. Interpath Image Viewer is also intended to be used in the content development part of Oncolex. The digitalized tissue sections will be made under the Interpath solution (also available there) and shown based on the choice of cancer diagnosis on Oncolex.

Roadmap

  • A new and optimized viewing model which allows online and continual viewing of virtual tests (100-200 MB) over the internet.
  • Integration between virtual tests (scans), macro images (from other sources) and clinical data.
  • Administrative interface for uploading of images and data for specific users (log in)
  • Annotation tools with storage fro annotations and notes associated with the user documentation
  • Integration of Interpath Image Viewer with pathology clinicís operating systemDoculive. The pathologist obtains visual indication that the actual specimen number also exists as a virtual test. If the pathologist wants, the virtual test can be shown with Interpath Image Viewer.
  • Interpath Image Viewer 2.0
